Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called on the Church to intensify prayers for peace, unity, justice and national stability as Nigeria approaches another electoral cycle in 2027.
He made the appeal on Tuesday while declaring open the 109th General Church Council meeting of the Church of Christ in Nations at its headquarters in Jos.
Represented by his deputy, Josephine Piyo, Mutfwang described the Church as a key institution in moral formation and social development, noting its role in education, healthcare delivery and humanitarian services.
The gathering brought together church delegates from across the country, alongside senior clerics and traditional rulers, for discussions on leadership, governance and spiritual direction.
The governor commended COCIN for its long-standing contributions to community development and nation-building, saying its work had helped reinforce social values in many parts of the country.
In his address, the President of COCIN, Rev. Amos Mohzo, called for unity within the Church and urged leaders to uphold humility, wisdom and righteousness in their stewardship.
He also expressed concern over security challenges, economic hardship and governance pressures facing the country, urging the Church to remain active in its spiritual and social responsibilities.
Traditional rulers present at the event included the Gbong Gwom Jos; the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, Da John Hirse; the Agwom Izere, Isaac Wakili; the Gung Zaar, Brig. Gen. Marcus Koko (Rtd); the Ujah Anaguta, Johnson Magaji; the Ponzhi Zhini, Joseph Lengnim; and the Atah Aten of Ganawuri, Yakubu Chairmang, among others.
