From WILLIE ATTAH, Gombe
The Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi, has indicated the Federal Government’s consideration of constructing the first flyover in Gombe State as part of ongoing road infrastructure development in the North-East.
Umahi made the remarks during an inspection of federal road projects in the state capital and the commissioning of a section of the Nassarawa–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri road corridor.
At a major intersection in Gombe, the minister said a flyover could be accommodated depending on cost assessment and funding priorities.
“There will be a flyover here, but I can’t accommodate it now… I’m very conscious of the cost,” he said.
He added that work on the road project would commence within 30 days, stressing that the intervention would reflect a shift from unfulfilled political promises to visible execution.
Umahi also advised the state government to consider tree planting along major roads as part of flood control measures.
The minister commended ongoing road infrastructure efforts in Gombe State under Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, while urging continued support for the Federal Government’s development agenda.
Governor Yahaya described the visit as significant for the state’s infrastructure growth, noting that the projects would improve connectivity across the North-East region.
He said the road network would link Gombe with Biu, Bauchi, Yobe and Adamawa, reinforcing the state’s position as a transport hub in the region.
“This is a hub for the North-East,” the governor said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for ongoing support and reaffirmed his administration’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s development policies.
