The Plateau State monthly environmental sanitation exercise was observed today, Saturday, 27th September 2027, with a strict monitoring of the exercise by the Director General of Plateau State Environmental Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), Hon Samuel Dapiya and the Task Force team.
While monitoring the restriction on movement and sanitation exercise, there was a dramatic twist where the DG turned the blind justice eyes even on his friends who defaulted the restriction on movement and business operation between the hours of 7:00 am – 10:00 am, and permitted the Magistrate to prosecute him for defiance of the law.
LEGITIMATE NEWS ONLINE reported that from the break of dawn, the PEPSA boss, backed by enforcement teams and mobile courts, stormed areas including Bauchi Road, Angwan-Rogo, Angwan Rimi, Farin Gada vegitable market and other adjoining communities, monitoring compliance during the 7AM – 10AM sanitation window.
Dapiya, while appraising the exercise, said there were commendable improvements in compliance levels, but did not mince words about the “float of the law” observed in some quarters, especially in Farin-Gada Market, where traders and transport unions appeared to show disregard for the directive.
Dapiya who used the opportunity to thank the people of Plateau for their increasing cooperation, stated “Our Emirs, Chiefs, media houses, and business owners showed real patriotism by complying with the sanitation directives, adding that Plateau is becoming cleaner, and attributed to the people.”
However, Dapiya called for deeper civic responsibility, making it clear that sanitation isn’t just about enforcement or court fines.
“Sanitation is a social service, not just a legal requirement. It’s not about dragging you to a mobile court. It’s about protecting your environment, your health, your future,” he emphasised.
The DG stressed that Plateau State just marked World Environmental Health Day, and the government is committed to improving air quality and public health ,but the vision can’t succeed without citizen involvement.
“We don’t want a Plateau where sanitation is done with fear and enforcement.We want a Plateau where it becomes a lifestyle. That’s our big vision. We’re not there yet, but we’re on our way.”
