Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has emphasised the vital role of polytechnic education in driving technological advancement and innovation in Nigeria.
Mutfwang stated this while receiving the National Executive Council of the Forum of Polytechnic Alumni Association, led by its President, Abbas Adamu, during a courtesy visit at Government House, Rayfield, in Jos.
Governor Mutfwang commended the forum for its efforts in championing technical and vocational education, describing polytechnics as critical to bridging the nation’s industrial and technological gaps.
Represented by his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, the governor stated that the disparity between polytechnics and other institutions did not speak well for society and promised to support the call to resolve the issue.
President of the Forum of Nigeria Polytechnics Alumni Association, Abbas Adamu, disclosed that they were in Jos for the third quarterly meeting of the forum.
Adamu, who appreciated the warm reception accorded them, highlighted key issues to be discussed during the meeting, including improved funding for polytechnics and the lingering disparity between polytechnic certificates and those of other institutions in the country.
He also underscored the impact of polytechnic education in promoting self-reliance and industrial development.
The delegation comprised representatives from across the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
