Professor Gbenga Ibileye

From AMEDU JOSEPH, Lokoja

Professor Gbenga Ibileye on Monday assumed office as the 4th substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, pledging to transform the institution into a world-class university marked by academic excellence, research, innovation and societal impact.

Inaugurated by the Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman, Professor Zubairu Abdallah, Ibileye assured that his administration would focus on nurturing globally competitive students and staff in an environment defined by transparency, inclusiveness and collaboration.

In his inaugural address, the VC said, “This vision is anchored in a mission to enhance academic quality, strengthen research, expand infrastructural development, and deepen community engagement.”

He highlighted over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s university system, noting, “I have witnessed FUL struggles, progress, aspirations, and resilience. This familiarity allows me to operate effectively and achieve results.

Ibileye paid tribute to former VCs, including Professor Abdulmumini Rafindadi, Professor Angela Miri, and Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, promising to consolidate past achievements.

The Pro-Chancellor described the immediate past VC as “Father of Modern FUL” and encouraged the new VC to build on the solid foundation left behind.

Professor Ibileye, a Professor of English Language, joined FUL in 2012 and served as Head of the English Department prior to his appointment as VC
