The Plateau State Police Command has intensified efforts to halt persistent attacks on lives and property in Bokkos Local Government Area, convening a crucial stakeholders’ meeting aimed at restoring peace in the troubled community.
The meeting, held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Jos, brought together community leaders from Mushere District in Bokkos LGA, security officials and government representatives to chart a path toward lasting stability.
Addressing participants, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, underscored the importance of trust, honesty and unity among residents, describing them as the foundation upon which sustainable peace and security must be built.
He explained that the dialogue platform was created to encourage communities to close ranks and confront their common enemies rather than remain divided.
“We must see ourselves as one people with a shared responsibility to protect our land,” the Commissioner stated, urging stakeholders to collaborate in ending the cycle of violence that has plagued the area.
CP Ewah reiterated that while security agencies can provide support, the responsibility for lasting peace ultimately rests with the communities.
Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, Mr. Amalau Amalau, appreciated the Police leadership for what he described as tireless efforts to safeguard lives and property.
He lamented the devastating toll of recurring crises, noting that many lives have been lost, families displaced and economic activities severely disrupted.
“The people of Bokkos are weary of violence,” Amalau said, calling on stakeholders to unite and partner closely with security agencies to restore peace and normalcy.
Traditional leaders also expressed a collective desire for displaced residents to return to their ancestral homes.
They prayed for an end to the culture of blame and counter-blame, stressing the need for practical reconciliation steps and firm leadership from community heads.
The engagement formed part of broader measures by the Command to strengthen community–Police collaboration and promote dialogue-driven solutions to insecurity in Plateau State.
