The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two staff members of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) for allegedly assaulting a lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan (UI), Dr. Mikail Abdulsalam.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday by policemen from the Moniya Police Division in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to reports, the incident occurred at the Obafemi Awolowo Railway Station in Moniya, where the lecturer had gone to drop off his sister, who was travelling by train to Lagos.

Sources said the railway staff allegedly descended on the lecturer shortly after he stopped his car at the station to allow his sister alight.

Despite reportedly maintaining a calm disposition, the lecturer was harassed, beaten, and assaulted by some members of staff of the corporation.

The incident was subsequently reported at the Moniya Division of the Nigeria Police Force.Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said two suspects had been arrested while another suspect fled the scene.“The suspects are in custody. Two of them. The third suspect ran away,” Ayanlade said.
