From AMEDU JOSEPH, Lokoja
The Kogi State Government has expressed satisfaction with the remodelling of LGEA Demonstration Nursery/Primary School, Onyunkoko, in Okene Local Government Area, describing the project as evidence of its commitment to providing modern and inspiring learning environments for pupils.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, in a statement to journalists in Lokoja recently, said the administration of Governor Ahmed Ododo remained committed to consolidating the educational infrastructure strides of the previous government.
He noted that the newly remodelled school reflected the government’s broader policy of standardising public school structures in Kogi State, ensuring pupils learn in safe, attractive and conducive environments.
“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo understands the importance of a dignified learning environment because he is himself a product of public schools. His administration is determined to restore parents’ confidence in public education,” Fanwo said.
He added that the Onyunkoko project was part of a statewide effort, with several other schools currently undergoing similar upgrades aimed at repositioning the education sector.
Fanwo recalled that the government had already introduced free education for pupils and students in public schools, as well as bursary support for tertiary students, noting that such policies must be matched with quality infrastructure.
“Providing free education in dilapidated structures would be a disservice to our future leaders. The government is steadily working to restore the old glorious days when Kogi’s public schools were known for beauty, orderliness and a conducive learning atmosphere.”
He acknowledged that many schools had suffered years of neglect, leaving facilities aged and deteriorating, but assured that the administration was systematically addressing the challenge.
“Governor Ododo has never denied that some facilities are old and dilapidated due to decades of neglect. What we are doing now is restoring them, touching as many schools as resources can support.”
Fanwo said the transformation at Onyunkoko was evident in the contrast between the old and new structures, which stand as proof of the government’s commitment.
“The before-and-after pictures tell the story of what a focused government can achieve. More importantly, the smiles on pupils’ faces reflect their excitement and renewed pride in their school.”
He assured Kogites that Governor Ododo would continue delivering on his mandate by strengthening education as a foundation for sustainable development and ensuring every child has access not only to free education but also to a dignified and inspiring learning environment.
