The University of Jos has announced that all postponed first semester examinations will resume on Monday, April 13, 2026, following a temporary disruption caused by security concerns.
In a statement issued by the university management and obtained by THE NIGERIA STANDARD on Friday, April 3, 2026, the institution said the decision followed a review of the security situation affecting students during the week.
The statement, signed by Emmanuel Madugu, Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, indicated that the examinations earlier scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2, 2026, had been postponed.It added that the rescheduled examinations would commence with those initially slated for March 30, 2026.
According to the statement, the postponement was necessitated by heightened tensions and threats to the safety of students, prompting the management to allow them to travel home for an extended Easter break.
The university assured that adequate security measures had since been put in place to safeguard students and staff on campus.It advised students who had remained on campus to exercise vigilance and caution in their movements.
The statement urged them to promptly report any suspicious activity or breach of peace to the University Security Division through the designated emergency contact.It further disclosed that normal academic and administrative activities would resume across the university community from Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Management reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property within the institution.The statement noted that no breach of peace would be tolerated as efforts had been intensified to maintain stability on campus.
It added that further updates would be communicated to students and staff as necessary.The university management also encouraged members of the university community to remain calm and steadfast during the period.
