The management of the University of Jos has responded to the indefinite strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, over alleged non-payment of March 2026 salaries and the exclusion of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA).
In a press release made available to THE NIGERIA STANDARD on Wednesday evening, the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, stated that the university administration had verified that March 2026 salaries had been paid.
The statement was issued in reaction to ASUU’s notice announcing a total withdrawal of services.According to the university management, ASUU’s claim that salaries were unpaid was inaccurate, as payment for the month in question had been confirmed.
Addressing concerns raised in the union’s communication, particularly the assertion that delays were caused by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the management acknowledged the challenges but maintained that the university’s bursary department had fulfilled its responsibilities in the salary payment process.
“Management can confirm as well that the university has done all within its power to address the challenge,” the statement noted.
While calling for calm, the university authorities urged the University of Jos ASUU branch to direct its members to resume academic activities in the interest of students and the institution.
The management further emphasised the need to sustain the existing cordial relationship between both parties, noting that dialogue remained key to resolving any outstanding issues.
Our correspondent reports that this development has, however, created uncertainty within the university community, as academic activities risk disruption if the impasse between ASUU and the management is not urgently resolved.
