In an effort to enhance research and project writing capabilities for its students, the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Nasarawa State University Keffi has organised a two-day workshop for MSc, PhD and postgraduate students.
The workshop, themed “Igniting Research Excellence: New Trends and Frontiers in Communication and Media Studies”, took place at the Window on America hall of the school library on 23-24 September 2025.
Lectures focused on the selection of topics for research projects, collaboration and networking in multidisciplinary research in the 21st century, and ethical applications of innovative research tools in communication and media studies.
Other topics discussed included leveraging data sources and literature review tools, publishing in high-impact factor journals, and mastering research foundations.
Notable facilitators in NSUK included Prof. M. S. Rabiu, Prof. A. Igyuve, Prof. T. M. Akase, Dr. A. Ogande, Dr. T. Santas, and Prof. Desmond Onyemechi Okocha of Bingham University Karu, Nasarawa State.
The workshop was an interactive session, allowing students to ask questions and seek clarification.
In his closing remarks, the HOD, Dr. M. S. Yakubu, described the event as memorable, stating that it was the first of its kind and that the department would organise more workshops to bring students closer to their lecturers.
Dr. Rabiu emphasised the need for PhD, MSc, and postgraduate students to have easy access to their lecturers, rather than being treated as undergraduate students.
Students who spoke to ROtv24 expressed gratitude for being part of the workshop, stating that they gained valuable insights into project writing and research.
The coordinator, Dr. Sulaiman Garba, announced that certificates would be awarded to students who attended and participated in the two-day workshop, which concluded with a photo session between students and their lecturers.
