A combined Task Force under the Bauchi State Police Command has intercepted two suspects, Ayuba Ahmadu and Danlami Ayuba, both 25 years old, from Bogwas village in Kirfi Local Government Area.
“The suspects were found in possession of 560 litres of petroleum motor spirit (PMS) and confessed to selling fuel to bandits in the area. Each carried 280 litres on a Honda motorcycle,” SP Nafi’u Habib, Bauchi Command Police Public Relations Officer, told journalists.
During investigations, police recovered from the suspects’ den two AK-47 rifles, three dane guns, 200 live ammunition rounds, 40 empty shells, 12 knives, 18 cutlasses, one axe and two sticks.
On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at about 1400hrs, Joint Task Force operatives deployed to Mansur town in Alkaleri LGA intercepted the suspects, who admitted to their crimes.
In another operation, Kirfi Police Division responded to a suspected blockade along the Bauchi-Gombe highway near Kalajanga hamlet. Two siblings, Isiya Nasiru, 20, and Umaru Nasiru, 18, were arrested.
Recovered exhibits included sticks, a charm bulletproof shirt, live ammunition, facemasks, phones and personal items.
Earlier, on January 27, 2026 at 0330hrs, a combined team and local security tracked kidnappers following an intelligence report.
They neutralised one suspect and arrested the kingpin, Abdulkadir Adamu, 60, rescuing two captives who received medical attention.
Recovered exhibits included fabricated firearms, live cartridges, a chain and padlock, keypad phones and cutlasses.
On January 28, 2026, SCID operatives arrested a suspect for falsely presenting himself as a legal practitioner, having forged and used an expired NBA stamp on legal documents.
Preliminary investigations suggest prior access to the seal during 2024.
SP Habib said the Command, under CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, remains committed to maintaining a safe environment, adapting strategies to evolving security challenges.
He urged stronger public partnership, assuring that citizen reports will be treated confidentially and acted upon promptly.
“Let these successes reassure law-abiding citizens and serve as a stern warning to criminals. The Command is equipped, determined, and duty-bound to ensure justice,” SP Habib concluded.
NEDC leadership visits 13 injured journalists, pledges full support
The management of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) recently visited 13 journalists injured in a road accident while covering the commissioning of NEDC projects in Bauchi State.
The delegation visited the journalists at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, offering sympathy and prayers for their recovery.
The team was led by the Commission’s General Manager for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Batulu Isa Mohammed, who coordinated emergency medical treatment at Duguri and ATBUTH.
The delegation included NEDC Bauchi State Coordinator, Alhaji Aliyu Isiyaku, and other officials.
Speaking during the visit, Dr Batulu Isa Mohammed assured the injured journalists and their families of the Commission’s readiness to support their recovery.
He described journalists as “partners in progress” whose contributions were critical to the Commission’s work and the development of the North-East and Nigeria at large.
The accident occurred last Friday along the Yashi-Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri LGA.
In an earlier statement, the Head of Corporate Services, Abba Musa, disclosed that the NEDC Governing Board, management and staff expressed heartfelt sympathy to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), particularly the Bauchi State Council, and the Bauchi State Government.
The Commission confirmed that the Governing Board approved full medical support for the injured journalists and assistance for their families.
Efforts were underway to engage affected media organisations and families.
