Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called for the transformation of the Federal Fire Service to effectively meet modern operational demands and tackle current challenges confronting the nation’s fire-fighting and emergency response system.
Mutfwang made the call when he received, on a courtesy visit, the Director-General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Olumide, and top officials at Government House, Rayfield, Jos, recently.
The Nigerian Federal Fire Service is a government agency under the Federal Ministry of Interior, responsible for fire prevention, fire-fighting, rescue operations and emergency response across federal institutions and facilities in Nigeria.
Governor Mutfwang, while appreciating the visit, described the agency’s role in saving life and property as critical and urged officers to always be proactive in their duties.
Represented by the Plateau State Deputy Governor, Josephine Piyo, the governor assured that their demands—including protection against attacks on personnel, the need for an office complex, inclusion in the State Security Council, and the opening of more fire-fighting centres in the state—would be addressed.
Earlier, the Comptroller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Olumide, explained that it was their first visit to the state since the inception of the current administration and expressed appreciation for the state government’s support to the agency.
