The Plateau State Government has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Ratatis (Dorowa Babuje) community in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, describing the incident as barbaric and senseless.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, reportedly claimed several innocent lives and left others injured, throwing the community into mourning.
In a statement issued Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the government expressed deep shock and sadness over the development.
The statement noted that the incident occurred at a time when sustained efforts in dialogue, reconciliation and community engagement had significantly improved relative peace across the state.
According to the statement, those injured in the attack were currently receiving medical attention, while the government was closely monitoring their condition to ensure they receive adequate care.
According to the commissioner, Governor Mutfwang condemned the attack in its entirety and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.The governor directed security agencies to intensify operations in the affected area and strengthen security presence in surrounding communities to forestall further attacks.
He further ordered that those responsible for the violence be apprehended and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, a joint search-and-rescue team comprising security personnel and relevant government officials has been deployed to assist victims, account for missing persons and stabilise the affected community.
The government urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
Reassuring citizens of its commitment to protecting lives and property, the state government stated that additional proactive security measures are being reinforced to sustain peace, stability and harmony across Plateau State.
