Amid reports of a court order restraining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from conducting its congresses nationwide, the party has continued with the exercise.
Addressing journalists, the Chairman of the ADC Congress Committee for Adamawa State, General Ishaya Bauka (Rtd), confirmed that the process was ongoing in accordance with the party’s national timetable, which commenced on April 7 and was expected to culminate in a national convention on April 14.
He explained that the congresses, covering polling units, wards and local government levels, were being conducted simultaneously across the country.
He said the ongoing congresses were the foundation of the broader electoral process, adding that results from the exercise were expected to be collated by Friday ahead of the state congresses scheduled for April 11.
Bauka noted that the ADC distinguished itself from other political parties by maintaining active structures at the polling unit level, where positions were filled through a democratic process.
On a court order allegedly suspending the congresses in Adamawa, the committee chairman dismissed the claims as unfounded, stating that the committee was not in receipt of any official communication directing it to halt the exercise.
He assured party members and the public that the congresses would proceed as scheduled.
