The Provost, College of Education Gindiri, Prof. Lazarus L. Maigoro, reaffirmed the institution’s total commitment towards producing competent, innovative and morally sound educators that will contribute meaningfully to the education sector in society.Prof.
Maigoro made this known at the combined matriculation ceremony of NCE I, undergraduate 100 level and 200 level Direct Entry students held at the college in Gindiri.He described the event as a significant milestone in the lives of the newly admitted students.
“You have crossed an important threshold and by this ceremony, you are formally inducted into the academic community of this great college,” he said.
He noted that gaining admission into the institution was not a trivial achievement.He explained that it was the result of hard work, determination and the support of family members and well-wishers.
The provost said the college was proud to welcome the students into a community committed to excellence in teacher education and national development.
He stated that by taking the matriculation oath, students were pledging to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution, uphold discipline and pursue their studies with diligence and integrity.
He warned that students would encounter academic, social and personal challenges during their studies.He urged them to remain focused, attend lectures regularly, engage lecturers actively and make use of library and learning resources.
He advised students to avoid distractions that could derail their academic performance.He added that the institution had zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse and any form of indiscipline.
Prof. Maigoro further cautioned students to uphold honesty, respect and responsibility, stressing that character was as important as academic achievement.He advised them to avoid promiscuous lifestyles and focus on their academic goals.
“To you the matriculated students, as you embark on this academic pursuit, I urge you to dream big, work hard and remain focused. The future belongs to those who prepare for it today,” he said.
He appreciated parents and guardians for entrusting the institution with the education of their children.He assured them that the college would provide a conducive environment for learning and personal growth.
He also commended his colleagues for their dedication and commitment to excellence.He said their role in mentoring and guiding students could not be overstated.
In her remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Jos, Prof. Grace A. Chollom, congratulated the newly matriculated students.
She said the University of Jos and College of Education Gindiri did not and would not tolerate lazy students who failed to focus on their studies.
She advised students to set personal and professional goals and work hard towards achieving them.She encouraged them to form study groups, work as a team and read diligently to achieve good grades.
She also urged students to develop social skills, leadership qualities and positive relationships that would promote the growth of the college.Some of the matriculating students expressed gratitude to God for gaining admission into the institution.
They promised to concentrate on their studies and strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of the college.Highlights of the event was the presentation of 970 students to the provost for confirmation according to schools before oath taking.
