Authorities at the University of Jos have called for calm following the abduction of a student, John Arum.Arum was reportedly kidnapped while travelling from Jos to Kaduna.

According to available information, he was abducted alongside other passengers during the journey.He was said to be heading to Kaduna to deliver and repair a keyboard for a client.In a disturbing development, the kidnappers allegedly used the victim’s phone to record a video.

The video was sent directly to his class WhatsApp group, sparking panic among students and members of the university community.Sources said the abductors initially demanded a ransom of ₦30 million.

The amount was later negotiated to ₦4 million.In an official statement issued by the university’s Directorate of Student Affairs, Christopher Piwuna, confirmed that the institution’s attention had been drawn to a video showing one of its students in captivity.

The statement noted that the case has been reported to relevant security agencies for urgent action.The university urged students to remain calm and prayerful.It warned against actions that could compromise rescue efforts by security operatives.

The institution specifically directed that all fundraising activities related to the incident be stopped immediately.It noted that such moves could be exploited by criminal elements.Students were also advised to allow security agencies to carry out their responsibilities without interference.

Authorities warned that the perpetrators may be closely monitoring public reactions, including online discussions.The Directorate cautioned student leaders and groups against making public statements or circulating information on the incident without clearance.It stressed that the situation requires careful handling rather than social media speculation.

The Directorate further appealed to anyone with useful information or possible contact with the abductors to report to the school authorities or the victim’s family.The university expressed solidarity with the victim and his loved ones.It assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure his safe return.
