Residents of Kapgalwa 2 community in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State were left in shock after a pig reportedly gave birth to a deformed piglet with features said to resemble a human face.

The unusual incident, which was said to have occurred over the weekend, quickly attracted large crowds of curious residents who trooped to the scene to witness the rare occurrence.

Eyewitnesses described the piglet as having an abnormal head structure that bore a striking resemblance to human facial features, a development many locals said they had never witnessed before.

Photos and short video clips of the animal had since gone viral on social media, generating widespread debate and speculation across Nigeria.

While some residents interpreted the incident as a mysterious or spiritual occurrence, others called for calm and urged veterinary experts and relevant authorities to investigate the situation scientifically.

A resident of the community, who spoke to THE NIGERIA STANDARD on condition of anonymity, said the incident had caused panic among some villagers.

“People rushed to the area as soon as the news spread. Many were shocked by what they saw because it looked so unusual,” the resident said.

Animal health experts explained that such occurrences were usually linked to severe genetic mutations, congenital deformities, environmental factors or complications during fetal development.

As of the time of filing this report, local veterinary officials in Shendam were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The development has continued to attract attention both locally and on social media, with many users calling for proper scientific examination to determine the actual cause of the deformity.
