The draws for the Jos South Chairman’s Cup Tournament have been conducted for 16 registered teams at the Jos South Secretariat, with organisers and stakeholders describing the exercise as transparent and a step towards reviving grassroots football in the area.

The draw ceremony was held recently at the Jos South Secretariat, where the fixtures were organised among 16 participating teams for the upcoming tournament.

Officials said the draw process was conducted transparently and to the satisfaction of all participating teams.

According to the draws, Group A consists of Kuru A, JOSAFA, Zawan A and Kushe All Stars.

Group B has Zawan B, Giring, Gyel A and Gutsy United.

Group C features Turu, Gyel B, Du A and Du B, while Group D includes Bukuru, Du A United, Vwang Ward and Kuru B.

The tournament is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 25, 2026, with Gyel A facing Gutsy United at the Bukuru Mini Stadium, where the opening ceremony will also take place at 2pm.

Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council, Hon. Silas Dung, described the tournament as the fulfilment of one of his campaign promises aimed at reviving dormant sporting activities in the area.

“This is one of our campaign promises and the idea is to revive sporting activities that are comatose in the local government. We chose to start with football, not to disregard other sports. We assure you that other sports will get attention under our watch,” he explained.

He recalled participating in the Chairman’s Cup during the mid-1990s and reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the lost glory of sports in the locality and promoting unity among residents.

The Chairman of the Plateau State Football Association, Hon. Suleiman Kwande, described the draw ceremony as well-organised, adding that letters would be sent to Plateau United and Mighty Jets International football clubs to monitor matches and scout for talents.

In separate remarks, Hon. Mrs Lucy Michael, the Vice Chairman, the Director of Finance and Supply, Larry Gowon, and other stakeholders commended the council chairman for organising a befitting tournament for football players in the local government area.
