As competition intensifies in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Plateau United have been commended for their stability and strategic planning ahead of the new season.
The club finished 10th in the league last season, but stakeholders believe the foundation has been laid for a stronger campaign in the 2026/2027 season.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Registered Supporters Club and Secretary-General of the Association of NPFL Clubs, John Pam Sheku, attributed the team’s performance last season to the commitment and hard work of the management, which helped preserve the club’s reputation despite the highly competitive nature of the league.
Speaking as preparations for the new season gather momentum, Sheku expressed confidence that Plateau United can secure a continental ticket at the end of the campaign.
“Looking at the team’s readiness and the way the management is handling things, I believe they can qualify for continental football,” he said.
According to him, the club has used the off-season period to address the shortcomings identified during the previous campaign.
He explained that lessons learnt from last season are now shaping the team’s preparations and planning for the new league season.
Sheku also applauded the Plateau State Government for its efforts in improving players’ welfare.
He noted that welfare has become a critical factor in determining the success and stability of clubs competing in the NPFL.
He singled out Plateau United as one of only three NPFL clubs with one of the best welfare packages for players.
“This is why the players remain motivated and committed. Good welfare gives players confidence on the pitch,” he added.
Sheku maintained that Plateau United are capable of competing against any opponent in the forthcoming season.
He stressed that the team would not be intimidated by the challenging fixtures expected in the NPFL, expressing confidence that the club possesses the quality and determination needed to achieve its objectives.
