Bauchi police arrest two for kidnapping, also investigating a murder case

Bauchi police have arrested 2 suspects for allegedly kidnapping a 4-year-old boy from Gida Dudu housing estate, Bauchi.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement, said that the boy’s 45 year-old father reported that the victim was abducted from the frontage of their residence.

It said that preliminary investigation revealed that on 9th June 2026, around 1330 hours, one 39-years-old Mohammed Usman, lured the boy from his home at Gida Dudu housing estate, and took him to the residence of one 40-years-old Hayatudeen Ahmad, both of the same housing estate.

To conceal his crime, Mohammed Usman deceived Hayatudeen Ahmad claiming that the minor was his sister’s son, who was critically ill, further claiming that it was late to travel with the boy to Kano that night, and pleaded with him to keep the boy overnight, promising to take him to their family in Kano the following day.

Subsequently, the 1st suspect wrote a ransom note and dropped it at the complainant’s frontage, demanding a sum of #5 million, and providing a phone number for payment.

On being alerted, detectives arrested the suspects, with the victim found alive and in good health in the house of the 2nd suspect, and the child has since been reunited with his family.

“Both suspects are currently in police custody with investigation on going after which they will be charged to court.

In another development, the police have launched an investigation into a suspected murder case involving a 33-year-old Aminu Najamu, a resident of Kobi street, Gwallaga area of Bauchi State.

The police received a report that the deceased entered his room on 7th of June 2026 and was found dead on 9th of June 2026.

With commencement of preliminary investigation, the case has been transferred to the state criminal investigation department, SCID Bauchi, for discrete and comprehensive investigation.

CP, Mr. Sani-Omolori-Aliyu reassured of the command’s readiness to contain crime and guarantee safety of lives and property in the state.
