Two tricycles were set ablaze by youth at Zololo Junction in Jos on Monday after a suspected phone robbery triggered mob action.
Residents said the suspects, operating a commercial tricycle, allegedly dispossessed a young woman of her mobile phone and pushed her out of the vehicle before attempting to flee.
The victim was said to have raised an alarm, drawing the attention of passersby and residents who gave chase and intercepted the suspects.
The situation escalated as an angry crowd descended on the suspects and set both tricycles on fire at the scene.
Operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) later arrived and rescued the suspects from the mob, taking them into custody for protection and further investigation.
The burnt tricycles remained at the junction as residents gathered to witness the aftermath of the incident.
Security agencies had not issued an official statement as of press time, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
