A high-powered delegation from the Defence Headquarters on Sunday visited the family of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd) in Katsina, assuring them that efforts were ongoing to ensure justice over his death in captivity.
The delegation, led by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General IM Abdullahi, conveyed condolences from the Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The visit was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
At the family residence, Abdullahi described the late General Abubakar as a dedicated officer who served the nation with distinction for over three decades, noting that he made significant contributions to the Nigerian Army and the country’s security architecture.
He assured the family that the Armed Forces and sister security agencies would spare no effort in ensuring that those responsible for the General’s death are brought to justice.
He also presented a National Flag to the family in honour of the late officer’s sacrifice.
“Major General Abubakar served the Nigerian Army and the nation meritoriously for over three decades.
“His years of dedicated service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire officers and soldiers,” Abdullahi said.
Responding on behalf of the family, Alhaji Dikko Mu’azu Ruma, Gado da Masun Katsina, thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces for standing by the family during the trying period, and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
The delegation later visited the Katsina State Government House, where Deputy Governor Mallam Faruk Lawal Jobe described the incident as a painful loss to Katsina and Nigeria, and called for stronger collaboration to address insecurity.
He assured the military of continued state support in efforts to restore peace.
Senior military officers accompanied the delegation, including the Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj. Gen. WB Idris; GOC 8 Division, Maj. Gen. BP Koughna; Rear Admiral AM Haruna; and Air Vice Marshal AY Abdullahi, among others.
