The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, has distanced itself from a social media post alleging that some publishers and media owners were excluded from official transportation arrangements to the groundbreaking ceremony of the Plateau State ultramodern abattoir project in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The council stated that the views expressed in the post were those of the individuals involved and did not represent the official position of the NUJ Plateau State Council, in a statement signed by Council Chairman, Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, and Secretary Mary Domtur.
It acknowledged that some journalists were unable to board the vehicles provided for transportation to the event held on Monday at Pwomol in Heipang District.
The union noted that affected members made alternative arrangements, including the use of personal vehicles and public transport, to attend the event.
While recognising that concerns can arise during official assignments, the NUJ urged affected parties to use dialogue and established channels for resolution rather than public statements that could create unnecessary tension within the media community.
It stated that administrative decisions on media coordination at government functions should not be interpreted without a full understanding of the procedures and protocols involved.
The NUJ commended the Plateau State Ministry of Information and Communication for its engagement with media stakeholders across the state.
It praised the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, for strengthening communication between government and the media and improving the dissemination of government information.
The union passed a vote of confidence on Ramnap, describing her leadership as instrumental in sustaining a cordial working relationship between government and media practitioners in the state.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to press freedom, professional ethics, and constructive engagement among journalists, media owners, government institutions and the public in the interest of Plateau State.
