Tunisia have sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi in the immediate aftermath of their heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden, a result that has thrown their World Cup campaign into crisis after just one game.
The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed on Monday that Lamouchi’s contract was terminated by mutual consent, citing concerns over performance and technical direction.
Former coach Mondher Kebaier is expected to return on an interim basis as the federation scrambles to steady a rapidly unravelling campaign.
The defeat in Monterrey laid bare a fragile defensive structure, with Tunisia repeatedly stretched and overrun by Sweden’s pace, movement and sustained attacking pressure.
The scale of the loss has triggered swift internal reassessment, with officials moving quickly to contain fallout and prevent the campaign from slipping further out of reach.
Kebaier, who previously managed the national side, is expected to assume control immediately, with little time to prepare before the next fixture.
Tunisia now face Japan on Saturday in what has effectively become a must-win encounter to keep qualification hopes alive, before a final group match against the Netherlands.
With two group games remaining, Tunisia must quickly respond if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive after Lamouchi’s dismissal.
