From JOHNSON NONGU, Makurdi
Governor Hyacinth Alia has renamed the Ishaya Bakut Dual Carriageway in Makurdi after Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The governor announced the decision on Tuesday during the commissioning of 10 road projects in the state capital, attended by the First Lady as part of her official visit to Benue State.
Alia said the renaming was in recognition of Senator Tinubu’s contributions to national development and her interventions in support of women, youths and vulnerable groups across the country.
The road was previously named after the late Major General Ishaya Bakut, who served as Military Governor of Benue State between September 1986 and December 1987 during the administration of former military president Ibrahim Babangida.

The governor cited the First Lady’s humanitarian and empowerment initiatives as reasons for the honour, noting that her programmes had impacted communities across the country, including Benue State.
Senator Tinubu’s visit to the state featured the commissioning of development projects and the unveiling of programmes targeted at women, youth and small-scale business owners.
