Super Falcons forward Joy Ogochukwu Omewa has completed a move from English side Nottingham Forest to Swedish champions BK Häcken on a deal that will keep her at the club until 2029.
The transfer comes as the 23-year-old prepares for her maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, appearance with Nigeria.
BK Häcken confirmed the signing, describing Omewa as a player whose goalscoring ability will strengthen the club’s ambitions in the Swedish league and European competitions.
“Häcken is a fantastic club that helps talents. I feel it is the right place for me,” Omewa said after her unveiling.
The club’s football director, Martin Ericsson, praised the Nigerian striker’s attacking qualities, describing her as a natural goalscorer.
“Her instinct for scoring goals is clear, and she is always looking for the next opportunity,” Ericsson said.
Omewa began her career with Osun Babes before moving to Confluence Queens, where her performances earned her a move to Danish club B.93 in 2021. She later joined Fortuna Hjørring, where she enjoyed a breakthrough 2024/25 campaign, scoring 22 league goals to help the club win the Danish league and cup double.
Her performances earned her the league’s Player of the Season award and attracted interest from clubs across Europe.
She joined Nottingham Forest in January 2026 and scored three league goals in nine appearances before completing the move to Häcken.
The transfer also reunites her with fellow Super Falcons midfielder Halimatu Ayinde at the Swedish club.
Omewa will now combine her new club challenge with preparations for her first WAFCON campaign, where she is expected to be part of Nigeria’s bid for another continental title.
