Lamingo Golf Academy, based at the Lamingo Golf Club in Jos, Plateau State, is gradually gaining recognition for its remarkable efforts in developing young golfers capable of competing favourably at national and international levels.
The academy has become a model for grassroots sports development by introducing children to golf at an early age through structured training programmes and regular coaching sessions aimed at laying a solid foundation for the next generation of golfers.
Speaking with THE NIGERIA STANDARD Sports Desk, the Head Coach of the club, Ajang Azi, revealed that the academy has continued to make significant progress since it was established in 2013.
According to him, the steady growth of the programme reflects the commitment of the club to youth development, noting that the academy currently has more than 200 young golfers enrolled across different age categories, including beginners aged two, seven and 12 years.
He explained that introducing children to golf at an early stage helps them develop discipline, concentration, patience and confidence, qualities that are important both in sports and everyday life.
Azi added that early exposure to the game gives young golfers the opportunity to master the fundamentals while gaining the experience required to excel in future competitions.
He stressed that investing in children’s participation in sports remains one of the most effective ways of securing the future of golf in Plateau State and Nigeria.
The coach noted that many of the academy’s young players have already demonstrated promising potential during training sessions and local competitions, while appealing to parents to encourage their children to participate in the sport because of its physical, mental and social benefits.
He also called on corporate organisations, government agencies and other stakeholders to support youth golf development through sponsorship and improved facilities.
Azi expressed optimism that with sustained investment and consistent training, the academy would produce golfers capable of representing Plateau State and Nigeria in major championships across Africa and beyond.
He assured that the club would remain committed to maintaining high coaching standards and expanding opportunities for young athletes.
As Lamingo Golf Academy continues to grow in reputation, it is emerging as one of Plateau State’s leading centres for grassroots golf development.
Its commitment to nurturing young talents demonstrates that, with the right support, Nigeria can produce a new generation of golfers ready to compete successfully on the global stage.
