The Nigeria Volleyball Federation has commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his support for sports development, particularly efforts to promote grassroots participation.
Bolcit Barshep-Amakiri, the federation’s North Central zonal representative, gave the commendation in an interview with our correspondent during the North Central zonal eliminations technical meeting at the National Sports Commission’s North Central office in Jos.
Barshep-Amakiri said Mutfwang had supported initiatives capable of bringing recognition to the state, adding that sports could also contribute to economic development and attract investment.
“Governor Mutfwang is a sports lover who supports any initiative that will bring glory to Plateau State,” she said.
She said the state government should continue to collaborate with sports stakeholders and extend its support beyond football to other disciplines capable of producing athletes and bringing honours to Plateau.
Barshep-Amakiri cited Nigeria’s recent qualification for the Beach Volleyball Olympic ticket, noting that one of the players was an indigene of Plateau State.
She called for greater encouragement and support for the athlete and other emerging talents from the state.
On the North Central zonal eliminations, she described the initiative as an opportunity to strengthen grassroots sports development and identify young talents.
“The idea of the intermediate games is perfect and timely, especially at the grassroots level for talent identification,” she said.
