Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has donated N10 million towards the hostel project of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) RCC Jos Women Fellowship.
The donation was announced by the governor’s deputy, Josephine Piyo, who represented him at a fundraising organised to raise N30 million for the project at COCIN LCC Nassarawa Gwong, Jos.
Mutfwang commended the women fellowship for what he described as a “great legacy”, saying supporting projects that benefit young people was a worthy cause.
Piyo, who served as Mother of the Day, said she was proud of the fellowship and its decision to undertake the hostel project.
She described the initiative as “a demonstration of the nurturing nature of a woman”, adding, “Whoever empowers women builds a nation.”
The project is expected to provide hostel accommodation for some University of Jos students.
The Secretary to the State Government and chairman of the event, Samuel Jatau, said the project was timely, citing the limited availability of hostel accommodation for students of the university.
Jatau said only five per cent of University of Jos students had access to hostel accommodation and described the project as “apt”.
The guest preacher, Reverend Michael Ogabari, urged Christians to embrace sacrificial giving, drawing his sermon from 1 Chronicles 29 under the theme, “Building a Legacy through Sacrificial Living”.
Ogabari charged Christians to “love God and humanity genuinely”, describing it as the “key to sacrificial giving”.
Jatau also commended the project and urged the public to continue supporting initiatives that would benefit future generations.
Other guests at the event included the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Daniel Na’anlong, former Senate Minority Leader Simon Mwadkwon and Dachung Bagos.
The RCC Chairman, Reverend Cletus Gwam, thanked the guests for their support and prayed for their safety and guidance.
