More than 400 students have been matriculated into the University of Jos Institute of Education’s part-time Bachelor of Education programme for Contact 1 and 2.
The students were formally admitted into the university during an orientation and matriculation ceremony held on Friday at the Multipurpose Auditorium, Bauchi Road Campus, Jos.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, the Head of the Department of Arts Education, Judith Patrick, congratulated the new students and urged them to remain committed to their studies.
Patrick said gaining university admission was only the beginning of the students’ academic journey, stressing that graduating with a good class of degree remained the ultimate goal.
“Getting admission into a university brings joy to applicants and their families, but graduating with a good class of degree is what truly opens the door to successful living for graduates and their families in society,” she said.
She urged the students to maintain good character and develop the competence required of teachers who would make a positive contribution wherever they worked.
Patrick assured the students that the Institute of Education would provide a supportive learning environment and expose them to current teaching methods and strategies.
She warned them against examination malpractice, indiscipline and other conduct capable of undermining academic integrity, saying the university would not tolerate such behaviour.
One of the matriculating students, Daniel Samson, described the ceremony as the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream.
Samson expressed hope that the programme would positively shape his conduct and equip him to make a meaningful contribution to society.
