Senator Mohammed Onawo, representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, has emerged as the Allied Peoples Movement’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Nasarawa State.
Onawo was affirmed as the party’s flag bearer during a special delegates primary held at the weekend in Lafia.
Delegates from the state’s 13 local government areas participated in the exercise, which was convened following the withdrawal of the party’s former candidate, Mohammed Auwal, who is also the APM chairman in Nasarawa State.
Speaking after his affirmation, Onawo thanked party members for their confidence and pledged an issue-based campaign focused on security, infrastructure, agriculture, education and job creation.
“I accept this nomination with humility and a strong commitment to serve the people of Nasarawa State.
“Together with APM, we will build a state where every citizen has opportunity and hope,” he said.
Onawo said his experience in the state legislature, House of Representatives and Senate gave him a broad background in governance and legislation.
He also pointed to his grassroots political structure, particularly in Nasarawa South, and described himself as a credible alternative for voters in the 2027 election.
The senator said he would run a people-centred administration focused on improving prosperity across the state while building on his previous and current records in public office.
Auwal said he withdrew from the race in the interest of party unity and to support a candidate with broader reach ahead of the election.
The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
