The remains of former Governor of the defunct Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, were laid to rest in Yola, Adamawa State, on Sunday.
Tukur, who died at the age of 90, was buried after a funeral prayer at the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa, Dr Muhammadu Mustapha.
The Chief Imam of Modibbo Adama Juma’at Mosque, Khadi Ahmadu Bobboi, led the funeral prayer attended by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, political leaders, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
Fintiri described the death of the former governor as a loss to Adamawa State and Nigeria, citing his contributions to the political development of the state.
He urged younger leaders to sustain Tukur’s vision for unity, development and progress, and prayed for the deceased to be granted eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Auwal Tukur, thanked sympathisers for their support.
