Former student of Baptist Secondary School, Jos, Manji Jibba Ladan, has organised basketball training for teenagers at his alma mater as part of efforts to promote youth development through sports.
Ladan, who graduated from the school in 2010, said the initiative was a way of giving back to the institution that helped shape his character and prepare him for life beyond school.
He said basketball had provided opportunities for international travel and personal growth, adding that he wanted students to benefit from the discipline and experience the sport offers.
Ladan said he hoped to see students develop their sporting abilities while maintaining good academic performance and acquiring skills that would prepare them for life after school.
He stressed the importance of engaging teenagers in productive activities during and after school hours, noting that sports could help improve mental alertness and build confidence.
THE NIGERIA STANDARD observed that teenagers participating in the training responded enthusiastically to instructions and practical sessions conducted by three basketball coaches.
The training was supervised by Joshua Ehireme Okoi of Baptist High School; Ladan Longnaan Levi of Canaan High School, Gold and Base; and Apollos Joshua Maton of TCNN Staff Secondary School.
The coaches pledged to support Ladan’s initiative and contribute their expertise to the development of basketball and academic performance at the school.
The programme is expected to provide students with practical basketball skills and mentorship while encouraging them to remain focused on their education.
