Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of five children from the same family in a fatal motor accident in the heart of the state capital.
The accident, involving a water tanker and a tricycle conveying schoolchildren, occurred on Tuesday morning in Jekadafari, Gombe.
In his reaction to the tragedy, Governor Inuwa described the incident as a devastating loss that has robbed the family and the state of five promising young lives.
All the children were from the family of Mansir Adamu, identified as Maryam Mansir Adamu and Usman Mansir Adamu, both Primary Five pupils of Jekadafari Primary School; Hauwau Mansir Adamu of GJSS Jekadafari; Aliyu Mansir Adamu of GDSS Ahmadu Gombe; and Fatima Mansir Adamu, a student.
Governor Yahaya said the incident was a heartbreaking tragedy, particularly given the tender ages of the children and the bright futures they had ahead of them.
“The loss of five children from one family in a single tragic incident is profoundly painful, not only for their parents and relatives but also for their schools, the Jekadafari community and the entire people of Gombe State,” he stated.
He said the promising young lives had been cut short at a time when they should have been pursuing their education, nurturing their dreams and looking forward to a future filled with possibilities.
Governor Yahaya also offered prayers for the speedy recovery of three other children receiving medical treatment following the accident.
In view of the tragedy, Governor Inuwa Yahaya called on motorists and other road users to exercise utmost caution and responsibility, warning against reckless driving and other dangerous road practices that put innocent lives at risk.
He urged drivers to observe traffic rules and regulations, maintain safe speeds, avoid dangerous manoeuvres and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy.
He then extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the management and staff of the affected schools, their classmates, friends and the wider community, praying Almighty Allah to grant the deceased children Aljannatul Firdaus and give their parents and other family members the fortitude to bear this monumental loss.
