Team Delta has named six athletes for the World Teqball Championship qualifiers scheduled for October 29 to 31, 2026, in Aba, Abia State.
The Chairman of the Delta State Teqball Association, Comrade Dick Marvel, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for the competition, which will determine qualification for the 9th World Teqball Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from December 1 to 6.
The team is training at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, where Coach Alex Akpoguma said the players were in good condition and determined to qualify for the world championship.
The athletes are Victor Oyemade, Nigeria’s number one-ranked player, Rejoice Jatau, Mikel Enebechukwu, Ogheneegare Ovuirooro, Efemena Ekeke and Miracle Edafe.
Akpoguma expressed confidence in their ability to compete with discipline, focus and teamwork as they pursue qualification.
Marvel thanked the Delta State Government for its support for sports development and acknowledged the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, for his role in creating opportunities for athletes to compete at national and international levels.
He also commended the organisers of the qualifiers and the President of the Nigeria Teqball Federation, Habu Ahmed Gumel, for their contributions to the development of the sport.
Marvel called on sports enthusiasts, corporate organisations and Nigerians to support the team ahead of the qualifiers.
“Our ambition is to compete strongly in Aba, secure qualification, and proudly fly the Nigerian flag in Hungary. We understand the level of competition ahead, but we believe in our athletes, their preparation and their determination to succeed,” he stated.
