Three people were feared dead after a government Hilux reportedly travelling with Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s convoy collided with a car carrying students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, on Monday.
The crash occurred around 11 a.m. as the governor returned from Bida, according to an eyewitness, Danjuma Umar, who lives in Gidan Mangoro.
Umar blamed the collision on wrongful overtaking by the Hilux, claiming the private car was in its lane when it was hit.
“The people in the private car died instantly, while those in the government Hilux were seriously injured,” he said.
The driver of the private car was identified as a woman from Gidan Mangoro. The occupants were suspected to be postgraduate students of FUT Minna.
A staff member at General Hospital, Minna, said two victims arrived dead, while a third died after receiving emergency treatment.
THE NIGERIA STANDARD learnt that critically injured victims were referred to IBB Specialist Hospital.
The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Aishat Sa’adu, confirmed the accident but could not state the exact number of casualties.
