From DAVID MICHAEL, Lafia

Two people abducted in Agyaragu, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, are still being held by their kidnappers, who are demanding ransom, a lawmaker has told the state House of Assembly.

Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, who represents Lafia Central, raised the issue during Tuesday’s plenary, saying people had also been kidnapped in Agunji, Lafia, days earlier.

“Yesterday, in Agyaragu, Lafia, two people were kidnapped. Days back, in Agunji, Lafia, people were kidnapped,” Akwashiki said.

“As I am talking, the two people kidnapped yesterday are in the hands of the kidnappers and they are demanding ransom.”

Responding to the matter of public interest, Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, said renewed kidnappings in the state capital and other parts of Nasarawa had caused fear and economic setbacks.

The House urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to direct security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to intensify operations across the state.

“All hands must be on deck, especially chiefs and village heads in collaboration with vigilantes to identify strange people in their communities,” Jatau said.

He directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution to the governor for necessary action.

Other lawmakers backed the motion and called for stronger security measures across the state.
