The Plateau State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ephraim Usman, has commended the Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, John Christopher, for his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and the execution of people-oriented projects.
He gave the commendation Monday, October 26, 2026, during an inspection tour of projects across Jos North, which featured the commissioning of the newly constructed Late Senator GNS Pwajok Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Office Complex.
The commissioner, who led officials of the ministry on the assessment tour, expressed satisfaction with the quality and distribution of projects executed by the council, describing the chairman as a focused and determined leader committed to delivering the dividends of democracy.
He added that the council chairman’s performance reflected the commitment of the Plateau State Government, under Governor Caleb Mutfwang, to grassroots development and effective local government administration.
According to him, the achievements recorded in Jos North demonstrated the importance of allowing local governments to address the developmental needs of their communities.
He also commended the chairmen of the 17 local government areas in Plateau State for their cooperation and commitment to their responsibilities, urging them to sustain their efforts to improve residents’ lives.
In his remarks, Christopher attributed his administration’s achievements to the leadership and support of Governor Mutfwang, whom he praised for allowing local governments in the state to operate with considerable autonomy.
He explained that the financial independence and operational freedom enjoyed by local governments in Plateau State had created opportunities for council chairmen to initiate and execute projects that directly benefited their communities.
The chairman disclosed that his administration had constructed two new primary healthcare centres in Garba Daho and Furaka communities, renovated four dilapidated primary healthcare facilities and rehabilitated 10 primary schools across the local government area.
He added that the council had embarked on rural electrification projects to improve electricity supply in rural communities, alongside other interventions aimed at addressing residents’ needs.
Christopher also highlighted welfare programmes for vulnerable persons and support for Christian and Muslim communities during festive periods as part of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
He said the council had introduced ward-based development interventions, empowering councillors to execute one or two projects in their respective wards to ensure a more equitable distribution of development projects across Jos North.
The chairman expressed appreciation to the commissioner for his guidance and support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and service to humanity.
He called on residents to continue supporting the Plateau State Government, citing interventions in road infrastructure, tourism development and the rehabilitation of six primary healthcare centres under the IMPACT Project as examples of development efforts in Jos North.
Projects inspected during the tour included the newly constructed primary healthcare centres in Garba Daho and Furaka, the Rishari-Rutura ultra-modern market, the vehicular bridge linking Farin Gada and Russau communities and the newly commissioned Senator GNS Pwajok LGEA Office Complex.
The inspection and commissioning formed part of efforts to assess development projects and showcase the council’s contributions to infrastructure and public service delivery in Jos North.
